Favorite Beers: Troegs Nugget Nectar, Dogfish Head 60 minute, Bell's Hopslam, The East End Brewery Collection
Wines: Malbecs, Pinot Noirs, and most any other red! Although on a hot summer day, I'll take a cold sauvignon blanc or Pinot Grigio on the back porch.
I guess my love for all thing BYO started not long after moving to Chicago, right after graduating from Ohio University. (aka "Heaven on Earth"). Used primarily as a more “grown up pre-game” before a night out, our BYO rituals continued throughout all my years living in Chicago. Luckily, this fine city offered quite the assortment of just this type of venue.
Fast forward 4+ years to living in Pittsburgh, married, dog, house in the East End. And still loving BYOB restaurants. Although fewer in numbers, I’ve still managed to keep a "Friday night dinner club" which consists of my husband (Brian), and lovely couple “The Potters”, aka Jay and Lily, Lily being my partner in crime on this site.
Keeping the BYO ritual alive, we tend to seek out these establishments, but also open our minds to places that have their very own liquor licenses as well, we’re not biased! (And love trying new beers)
Hope you enjoy our reviews and trials of all the BYOB joints we can find and beers to try in the fair “City of Bridges.” Maybe here and there see Brian and I tackle yet another home improvement project and see a glimpse of Barley, the amazing "I only eat the left flip flop" dog. (Seriously, I'm now a proud owner of 5 right black Old Navy Flip Flops because he can't just leave me with a full set!)
Favorite Beers: HoeGaarden, Leffe Blonde, New Castle, 1554,
Atwater Vanilla Java Porter, Fat Gary....oh and so many more...
Wines: Ménage à Trois Red and White, Ivan Tamas Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer, Shiraz, and pretty much any blends. I am also a fan of homemade wines and am not scared to drink anything that comes in a box.
Ashley and I were introduced about 5 years ago. Our husbands were roommates in grad school. We discovered that we had a lot of the same interests: dining, wine, beer, gettin' jiggy wit it (AKA dancing to the 90's). And that was just in the first meeting. Thanks to her, I now share the love of BYOB's.
We try to hit up a new BYO every Friday. It is the perfect way to unwind after a long work week. Every once in a while we head to an old favorite, "Sharp Edge". (Big shout out to the Mystery Beer!) We eat until were stuffed, drink the perfect amount to de-stress and then it's off to bed. Seriously, we are usually home by 10:30. (Brian's bedtime)
Our goal is to hit up every Pittsburgh BYO that we know of and/or find out about. Then we're going to let you know what they were all about. Let's face it, anytime you can take your own drink, and eat with fun people, it's going to be a good time. Ashley is great at finding new places, so this is going to be a great experience for me. Hopefully, we can introduce you to some new places, too.
